Rum und Co probaly is Germanies largest online rum retailer. They have great service and a HUGE (as in: astronomical) selection of great sipping rums. Probably the largest offering of rums from Compagnie des Indes in the world. They have a nice range of rum sampling kits as well. Also look out for their own bottlings, as they sometimes have some real gems.

This website has an interesting and inspiring history. More on this can be found in this (German) article.

Cartavio Old Rum of Solera 12 YOrum

Published on October 14, 2015

Beautiful packaging for a beautiful rum. Cartavio Solera 12 is a blend of rum of at least five years old following the solera system.

The rum is made up of barrels of different types of wood. Besides the regular American and French oak, they also use slovenian wood.

A very nice sipping rum. Far less sweet than other Cartavio rums, and surprisingly complex, with hints of sherry, bourbon and some nice fruity notes.

More detailed information about Enmore Distillery.

A closed distillery that used to operate the world’s last remaining double wooden coffey still. A truly monumental piece of equipment that probably should be on some kind of world heritage list.

Thankfully, when the distillery was closed the still was moved to Diamond Distillery (Demerara Distlilers), where it’s still operational.

More detailed information about Destilerias Unidas S.A.C.

The largest producer of rum in Peru, and the distillery behind the famous Cartavio brand. Located north of Trujilo in Santiago de Cao The very modern distillery uses both pot stills and (vacuum) collumn stills, and produces anything from industrial ethyl alcohol through to great sipping rums.

Since the distillery was founded by the Cartavio Sugar Company, it is very likely that nowadays they still source their sugarcane and molasses from Peru.

Their 14 warehouses hold no less than 46.000 barrels of rum, made of both European and American oak.

More detailed information about River Antoine Distillery.

The nearest thing to timetravel. The distillery has been producing rum since 1785, and by the looks of it, not much has changed since since. It’s hard to get hold of River Antoine rum ouside of Grenada, since Grenadians are a thirsty bunch, and nearly 100% of production is sold locally.
